wine-doors 0.1.2 fails to start on Ubuntu 8.04

I have uninstalled earlier version and run purge, but still it refuses to start. Trying to launch I get no open window, the system seems to wait for a short time and then the window bar on the bottom panel exits.

The last two lines from the cli will probably tell someone what the problem is:

raise IOError(e.errno, e.strerror, e.filename)

IOError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/home/duncan/.wine-doors/packlists/System Base.xml'

Also I can't see any way to collect debugging information

Utilise gtk composite manager detection and create a small full screen cairo animation of fading to black to use when running games and full screen apps, also while we're at it we'll swap out compiz, set nice values, winedebug settings and various odds and sods like that.

The idea is that this will improve performance and prevent the need for the user to bugger with the window manager before running a game. It also adds a little bling.

The code to do all of this should probably be a separate program, and maybe included in libsexier

#805 Packages for Klik Core 0.1.3 - Point release task 02/28/08

It has been requested on IRC that we provide a klik package for Wine-Doors. We may get a wine-doors link on the klik projects home page and there is a possibility for greater collaboration between the two projects.

We should put together some scripts in trunk, or alter setup.py to generate klik packages.

Thanks for including Metatrader package in Winedoors, but when I install MT doesnot show icons in the taskbars, which makes navigating difficult. Further double click to change inputs in the indicators is not supported

Could this be fixed?

Hey there, I wrote a .wdi but wondered, why my dependencie (vc6) wasn't installed automagically. It seems taht only the GUI resolves those require-Tags. Not that nice - perhabs this could be changed in some further releases.

(Nice work! WineDoors? is a good step to make wine usable :D)

With a Kubuntu Hoary 8.04.1, I tried to do:

On first run of Wine-Doors when all the "pre-requisite" software is being installed: the AuotHotkey? readme requires the Gecko rendering engine to be installed for viewing however Gecko is not installed until after AutoHotkey? successfully installs.

We must have some way of supporting binary cracks. Some games work without the need for a crack however for the small number which do we should include a binary diff which can be applied to the version provided with the installer, this may require many MD5 sums of the original files in order to ascertain which revision the original binary is, as CD based installers may ship newer revisions the revision of the crack cannot be relied upon.

During writing deinstallation scripts I've stumbled upon the DLL hell.

provide OLEAUT32.DLL (and more).

We should provide some mechanism similar to dpkg-statoverride:

  • when there is a need to overwrite (within package installation) already existing file belonging to some package, the old file should be backed up into preferably filename.ext.package_name
  • upon deletion of the filename.ext (on package removal), its files (non-backed up) should be erased
  • package backed-up files should be erased
  • package files which are occupying the default place filename.ext, when some other files in directory exists with the same filename.ext.* prefix, should be removed and replaced with the first 'waiting' DLL

Without such functionality we're going into serious troubles when uninstalling some application can break the complete installation to unusable state. This could lead to usage of wine-doors as 'install-only' tool.

#451 Use install.xml for a collection of applications Core/Queue 0.2 - the refactoring defect 03/26/07

For firstrun, and all other collections or bundles of applications an install.xml file should be used, this file should include repositories which provide all the applications, each individual repository with its own multiple repo sections. This will replace using all the applications in the base repo.

By doing this firstly we can more easily control the wine root, by applying one install.xml file to a folder it would create the preferences for that folder, and define the repository paths. This would simplify the install process, as the install file can easily be generated and the repos can easily be added. As an install.xml file is processed it adds the repos to that users configuration.

Some hooks are required into Queue, Preferences and PackList for this to be possible.

an internal method, probably best inside of packlist should be able to iterate over an installed.xml file and append the items to the queue as appropriate.

This is related to #448 an depends heavily on #407

Employ an sqlite database of md5 sums of known installers with a view to a method submitting fingerprints online.

Each CD drive as returned by utils.GetCDMountPoint() will be searched for installers matching the md5 sums in the database. If there are exe files which are not on an ignore list, and are not in the database on the CD/DVD the information would be submitted back (XML-RPC) with a user comment on the disc contents.
